Indigenous Dramaturgies Exchange 2023

Indigenous Dramaturgies Exchange offers emerging Indigenous artists professional development and space for artistic exchange on a current or upcoming dramaturgy project, with a focus on on-the-land engagement as a way of locating stories.

This program provides reciprocal mentorship and community building, and you are encouraged to apply with a partner, mentor, or collaborator.

Indigenous dramaturgies: as artistic ceremony, as political resistances, and as community-building, are under studied and under supported. In this program we will discuss and explore your roles in deeper detail, with the support of faculty and with cultural facilitators for on-the-land engagement sessions. This program includes daily check-ins as a group to share in creative processes and showcase your work in order to look to yourselves, your cultural realities, relationships, and teachings as ways that navigate your artistic practice.

*Financial Aid of up to 100% of tuition fee, meal and accommodation fee is available for this program. All accepted participants will receive the financial aid package.

Call for Submissions – Found Festival 2023

Edmonton’s celebration of place and space is seeking site-specific installation and performance works! Found Festival 2023 (July 6-9) will be activating public spaces throughout Old Strathcona and beyond for four days of exciting, interactive, and innovative arts.

We take art out of conventional venues directly into the community. Found Festival celebrates art of all kinds: theatre, dance, film, poetry, music, sound art, installation art, endurance art… if it’s art created for unconventional spaces that challenges the artist/audience relationship, there’s a home for it in Found Festival.

Projects may be of any discipline: Theatre, poetry, music, dance, visual arts, literary, or all of the above!

All projects are encouraged to apply, however the following are being prioritized for curation in 2023:

  • Interactive installation projects;
  • Theatre projects with existing development/workshopping/production history; and
  • Video/digital projects.

Projects that consider community impact, integrate use of found space and/or are informed by their desired locations, and consider the performer relationship to audience are ideal fits for Found Festival. You don’t need to know an exact location, collaborators, or production logistics yet – we will help selected projects get connected to spaces and resources to pull their ideas off!

Selected projects will receive an artist fee (typically ranging between $1,000-$4,000), production support, mentorship, and Festival infrastructure support (marketing, box office, etc). Selected artists who are eligible will receive hands-on support in submitting applications for the March 1 Edmonton Arts Council project grant deadline.

Apply by written submission, live pitch, or video by February 13, 2023.

TREX Hallway Gallery Open Call for Submissions

Proposal submission deadline is December 12, 2022, by 11:59pm

This is an open call for Alberta artists to submit a proposal for the TREX Hallway Gallery.
Named after its long narrow dimensions, the exhibition space has one entrance and three walls.
One long wall is metal while its opposite wall is brick, and the hallway ends with a tall but narrow
wall of drywall. The two long walls are equipped with rail hanging systems; however, the space
also lends itself well to creative installation initiatives.

*Please see the Hallway Gallery mock-up for more specific dimensions and details about the
space.

We are looking for engaging proposals that respond to the space and take into consideration
potential interactions with viewing audiences – with preference being given to artworks and
exhibitions that are sculptural, performative, and/or mixed-media in nature. We would also like
for each new use of the TREX SW Hallway Gallery to offer an educational or public engagement
component. In your proposal, please indicate if you are interested in working with the organizers
on developing this, or if you have a specific educational component you are envisioning, please
tell us.

Please note that this is the first of what we hope will be many open calls for the TREX Hallway
Gallery. As such, for now it is seeking to fill just a few exhibition slots between January 2023
and the end of June 2023.

Eligibility

This call is only open to artists residing within Alberta over the age of 18, whose studio practice
is based primarily within the province. Art collectives or groups are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities of the Artist(s) and Fees

Installation/take-down assistance is available for out-of-town applicants, however shipment and
delivery of materials and/or artworks as well as retrieval of materials and/or artworks at the
close of the exhibition duration is the responsibility of the artist. CARFAC fees will be paid to
artists for exhibiting and for conducting an educational/engagement workshop as part of the
exhibition’s deliverables.
