Arts Council Wood Buffalo is pleased to announce that Sukhmandeep Singh has been selected as the first Artist in Residence for 2025. During his three-week residency, Sukhmandeep will actively engage with the community, share his creative practice, and develop new artistic works. His residency will include time spent in both Fort McMurray and Fort Chipewyan, where he will lead public workshops and share his skills within local schools.
Sukhmandeep is a versatile artist specializing in canvas paintings, window and wall murals, craft transformations, and face painting for events and festivals. Originally from India, he has been in Canada for nearly three years, with the past year spent in Fort McMurray. Passionate about community engagement, cultural expression, and creative transformation, Sukhmandeep uses art as a bridge to connect people and stories.
“The Artist in Residence program allows artists to develop their personal practice while also offering mentorship to urban and rural residents of Wood Buffalo,” says Liana Wheeldon, Executive Director of Arts Council Wood Buffalo. “We are excited to welcome Sukhmandeep and look forward to seeing the impact of his residency on our communities.”
As part of his residency, Sukhmandeep will be leading two public workshops in Fort McMurray, where participants can learn from his artistic techniques and creative process. Registration is now open:
Later in 2025, ACWB will also welcome the Suncor Indigenous Artist in Residence, who will bring a unique perspective and creative experience to the program. Stay tuned for the announcement and further details.
