Artists in Wood Buffalo create within a landscape shaped by environmental change. From wildfire and industrial development to long winters and shifting economies, the realities of living and working in the region influence not only what artists make, but how they make it.
Developed through a collaboration between Arts Council Wood Buffalo and SCALE-LeSAUT as part of Arts for Change: Empowering Wood Buffalo Artists as Environmental Changemakers (2026), this series of practical guides explores ways artists can build safer, more sustainable creative practices within their respective disciplines.
Rooted in the understanding that artists are deeply connected to the environmental realities of the region, these resources offer accessible strategies, considerations, and tools to support creative work that is both resilient and responsible. Whether working in visual arts, performance, media, craft, or community practice, artists have an important role to play in imagining and shaping more sustainable futures. These guides are intended to support that work in practical, grounded, and locally relevant ways.
