Are you looking for funding to support your arts, culture and heritage-related projects? The Arts, Culture & Heritage Grant could be the answer!

This grant provides up to $5,000 to individuals or groups who are working to create, inspire and preserve within the cultural landscape of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

To apply for the Arts, Culture and Heritage Grant, you must demonstrate how your project aligns with one or more of the following priorities of the Wood Buffalo Culture Plan:

• Foster a healthy environment for culture: arts and heritage.
• Further develop cultural facilities and resources.
• Support collaboration and innovation.
• Encourage diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility.
• Improve awareness of the value of culture.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Alberta Culture Days is a month-long celebration of arts, heritage, diversity and community-spirit featuring free activities for Albertans to enjoy. Held annually in September, it is an opportunity to discover, experience and celebrate arts and culture through local events and activities.

Alberta Culture Days coincides with the Month of the Artist, a celebration of artists, and the value they bring to the province, both socially and economically.

Arts Council Wood Buffalo stewards funds from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo among individual artists, groups and organisations who wish to host free arts & culture-based events for residents of Wood Buffalo. Arts Council acts as the fiscal agent, supporting as many events as possible, stewarding funds equitably and reporting back to funding agents.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Provide arts, culture or heritage-related programming during the month of September 2024. 
• Activities must be free to attend
• Provide a budget outlining estimated revenues (including in-kind and/or leveraged funds) and expenses

ELIGIBLE EXPENSES

• Artist fees/workshop fees/performance fees (funds can only be used to compensate Albertan artists)
• Event/workshop materials (for example: paint brushes, paper, costume rentals, etc.)
• Marketing and communications
• Volunteer expenses (for example: t-shirts, refreshments)
• Food and beverage (note: alcoholic beverages and bar services are not eligible)
• Honorariums, wages, and contract wage agreements with cultural workers and artists who are not already employed as staff by the applicant organisation (for example: ushers, stage managers, technicians etc.)
• Technology costs (for example: Zoom, WebEx, audio/visual technician services); equipment rental (for example: lighting, sound)
• Venue rental
• Equipment rental

Note: Arts Council divides available funds equitably among all eligible applicants, based on each applicants’ total requested amounts, and each project’s alignment with Alberta Culture Days priorities.

SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION

All submissions must be submitted through our online Opportunities Portal. Create an account, login and then click on the purple “Start Entry” button. You may begin drafting your proposal by selecting “Alberta Culture Days Grant (ABCD)” as your category. 

SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Submissions must be received by 12PM on June 13, 2024. Late submissions will not be considered for hire.

SELECTIONS PROCESS

Artists will be selected based on appropriateness for the program, cost, and quality. Priority will be given to artists who communicate clear, detailed concepts, with reasoning and feasibility provided to support their proposed Alberta Culture Days Event.

Please note that only artists(s) who are successful will be notified.

Selections will be made by the Arts Council Wood Buffalo staff. All selections will be final, and successful artists will be notified by July 2, 2024.

Alberta Culture Days 2024 will take place September 1 – 30. This month-long celebration of Alberta’s rich heritage, arts, community spirit and cultural diversity serves as a platform for talented individuals from across the province to showcase their skills. It illuminates Alberta’s vibrant history and communal ethos, celebrating its cultural tapestry.

Community organizations can apply for Alberta Culture Days funding through the Government of Alberta to support Alberta Culture Days activities, events and promotions that engage public participation and inspire future involvement. Grants up to $10,000 are available to support events in September 2024.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 15 at 11:59 pm.

This funding provides up to $15,000 to support the development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists by providing funding for a specific dance project.  

Who can apply?

Individual eligibility criteria

We recognize the unique contributions all artists make towards our community, and encourage applicants representing diverse communities, including Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, women, people with disabilities, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. • are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person with an open work or study permit from inside Canada

You must be in good standing with the AFA with no open or outstanding projects or reporting to apply. Previous grant recipients must ensure all final reporting has been approved by the AFA before new applications are accepted. This funding provides up to $15,000 to support the development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists by providing funding for a specific film and video arts project.

What does this grant support?

For the purposes of this funding opportunity, eligible film and video arts projects are independent works in film and video produced by individual artists. 

Eligible genres

For the purposes of this funding opportunity, eligible film genres include, but are not limited to:

• narrative shorts and features
• experimental shorts
• documentary
• animation

For a project to be eligible for AFA funding, the applicant must have complete editorial and creative control over the proposed project and must retain at least 75% of copyright.

This opportunity provides up to $15,000 to support the development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists by providing funding for a specific literary arts project.

  For the purposes of this funding opportunity, eligible projects include the below list of genres. Literary arts translation and anthology projects in any of the below genres are also eligible:

• short fiction

*The AFA defines literary non-fiction as a genre that uses inventive or literary techniques to produce work that is factually true and artistically elegant, and is written in a personal, identifiable voice. It can include:

Are you an artist or arts organization from Canada looking to collaborate with a Korean partner on a creative project? Apply before January 18, 2024, for a grant of up to $25,000.

What’s it about?

The Canada-Korea Co-creation Fund looks to boost creative connections between Canada and Korea by supporting projects focused on artistic co-creation between the two countries. It’s inspired by 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries and is made possible through a partnership between the Canada Council for the Arts, Arts Council Korea and Global Affairs Canada.  

Am I eligible?

  You may be eligible for the Canada-Korea Co-creation Fund if you:

• have existing ties to Korean arts and culture;
• have a Korean artistic collaborator in mind for a new co-creation project;
• are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada;
• have 7 years of professional experience in your creative field;
• have a project in mind that looks to move the marker forward on environmental sustainability, equity, diversity or inclusion;
• and have demonstrated capacity for international work and collaboration.
