The Theme: Midnight in Miami
Buffys 2024 took on a bold and glamorous twist with the theme Midnight in Miami.
Step into a world of vibrant energy, where the tropical allure of Miami meets the midnight glow of artistic expression. Known for its iconic art deco architecture, neon lights, and rich cultural history, Miami has long been a muse for artists across various mediums. From its colourful murals to the chic sophistication of its skyline, Miami offers a dynamic canvas that has inspired some of the most memorable moments in pop culture and art history.
Midnight in Miami brought to life the city's fusion of art, music, and nightlife. It's a place where creativity thrives, and the boundary between day and night blurs into a celebration of artistic vibrancy. In this setting, we honoured the spirit of innovation and imagination that defines Wood Buffalo’s artistic community.
Buffys 2024 mirrored the glitz and glamour of Miami, but with a creative Wood Buffalo twist—where bold colors, artistic freedom, and a touch of tropical mystery reign. Whether it's the neon glow reminiscent of Ocean Drive or the rich artistic legacy tied to Miami’s heritage, Buffys 2024 was a dazzling tribute to how place and time inspire art in powerful and unforgettable ways.
The Buffys Awards
Each year, Arts Council Wood Buffalo puts out a call for artists interested in creating bespoke works of art to serve as the physical awards at the Buffys.
The 2024 Buffy Awards were created by Nicole Wismann, local self-taught stained glass artist. Operating her small business, Deco Moon Glassworks, from her home studio she creates unique stained glass art heavily inspired by nature.
Each award was a beautiful stained glass creation, showcasing the northern lights dancing above snowy rolling hills and a proud bison. This unique tabletop piece is more than just an award; it’s a striking work of art that captures the essence of our northern landscape.
