Arts Council Wood Buffalo (ACWB) is pleased to announce a range of exciting opportunities for local artists across all disciplines, including paid artist calls and a special initiative, Words & Birds Wood Buffalo. These opportunities aim to support and showcase the region’s vibrant creative community while contributing to a thriving arts ecosystem.
ACWB has opened artist calls in a variety of areas, including visual arts, performing arts, photography, videography, and adjudication. These paid opportunities provide local artists with the chance to gain exposure, engage with the community, and receive compensation for their creative contributions.
In addition to paid opportunities, ACWB is launching Words & Birds Wood Buffalo, an initiative that invites both visual and literary artists to create works inspired by local birds. This collaborative project will feature the artworks in an exhibition, launching in September 2025. The works will be sold at the exhibition launch and online through the ACWB Marketplace. Funds raised through Words & Birds will support the further development of Arts INC, helping to raise funds for arts programs and initiatives in the region.
“ACWB is committed to providing opportunities that support all forms of artistic expression,” says Liana Wheeldon, Executive Director of Arts Council Wood Buffalo. “While Words & Birds offers a creative, non-compensated platform for artists, it plays a key role in raising vital funds to support Arts INC and our broader mission. The paid artist calls, on the other hand, ensure that local artists are compensated for their time and talent, which is essential for the continued vibrancy of our arts community.”
