On Thursday, June 11, Arts Council Wood Buffalo welcomed members, artists, community leaders, and supporters to SMS Equipment Place for our 2025 Annual General Meeting.
The evening offered an opportunity to reflect on the past year’s accomplishments, share organisational updates, and look ahead to the future of arts and culture in the region. ACWB extends sincere thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to a thoughtful and engaging evening of conversation and community connection.
During the AGM, members participated in the election of two new members to the Board of Directors. Arts Council Wood Buffalo is pleased to welcome Brian Fung and Brandon Fleury to the Board and looks forward to their contributions as the organisation continues its work to build a thriving community through the arts.
ACWB also extends heartfelt gratitude to outgoing Board Directors Theresa Wells and Mitchel Bowers for their dedicated service, leadership, and support during their terms. Their contributions have helped strengthen ACWB and advance the arts sector across Wood Buffalo.
Following the AGM, the Board appointed its Executive Committee for the upcoming term: Will Collins, Chair; Nabil Malik, Vice Chair; Luie Raczynski, Treasurer; and Celia Macdonald, Secretary.
Also following the AGM, attendees stayed for Making in Our Shared Landscape, a panel discussion exploring land-based practices, environmental themes, and the relationship between art-making and place. Moderated by Michelle Foran, ACWB’s Programs Coordinator, the conversation featured artists Carmen Wells, Eveline Kolijn, and Lucas Seaward, who shared insights into their creative practices and reflected on how artists engage with the region’s layered relationships between land, industry, ecology, and community.
The discussion sparked meaningful dialogue around the role artists play in responding to environmental change and fostering deeper connections to place through creative practice.
Arts Council Wood Buffalo thanks the panelists, moderator, attendees, and community supporters who helped make the evening a success. ACWB looks forward to continuing these important conversations and building opportunities for connection, collaboration, and creative growth throughout the year.
