Spend two evenings learning the traditional art of drum making with Cree/Métis multidisciplinary artist, educator, Knowledge Keeper, and activist Chantal Chagnon.
Chantal brings more than 40 years of drum-making experience, having first learned from her Mooshum (great-grandfather) at the age of five. Through the workshop, participants will create their own drums using traditional knowledge and contemporary techniques while learning about the teachings, symbolism, and significance connected to the materials and weaving styles used in each piece.
Participants will also create drumsticks, learn songs to accompany their drums, and explore the role of drums as instruments, spiritual guides, and healing tools.
Dates: October 28 & 29
Time: 5–9 p.m.
Location: Redpoll Centre
Cost: Free
A traditional drum circle will take place on the third evening (October 30)
