Description
This original piece is 1 of 3 glow-in-the-dark artworks currently exhibiting at the Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery in the Collective Threads showcase (August 10 - September 14, 2025).
“Ignorance is Bliss” is a one-of-a-kind mixed-media artwork created on a repurposed vinyl record. Featuring text from Alice in Wonderland, it reflects on looking back on the younger, more naive version of ourselves. Created during a period of immense growth and self-reflection, it represents the release of grief for losing that younger version, but also the gained perspective and deeper understanding of oneself and others.
The idea to create art on used vinyl records came from my deep appreciation and love of music. Often finding scratched and discarded records at thrift stores and used record stores, I decided to give them new life as a canvas instead of eventually ending up in the trash. Each record is layered with various paints, pastels, tissue paper, glitter, craft flowers, gems, and glow-in-the-dark paint - making every piece tactile and unique.
*includes black light to activate glow-in-the-dark* (Frame not included - only for exhibit.)
