The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity's Write Over Here: Indigenous Futurism Residency is a hybrid four-week residency designed to support Indigenous writers and storytellers developing screen-based adaptations of original works. Participants will explore Indigenous Futurism while adapting novels, short stories, plays, oral stories, or other creative works into screenplays for film, television, or web series.
The residency provides dedicated time, mentorship, workshops, and collaborative opportunities to help participants strengthen their storytelling, refine their scripts, and future develop their creative projects.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
- Identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be developing an original screen adaption based on their own creative work or a work for which they hold adaptation rights.
- Submit a writing sample and project proposal as part of the application.
Domestic and international applications are welcome.
Residency HighlightsÂ
Participants will:
- Receive mentorship from experienced Indigenous writers and industry professionals.
- Participate in workshops, one-on-one consultations, and peer feedback sessions.
- Develop and refine an original screenplay or screen adaptation.
- Connect and collaborate with a cohort of Indigenous storytellers.
- Present their work during a public reading or showcase at the conclusion of the residency.
Scholarships & Financial Assistance
Eligible participants receive a Banff Centre scholarship covering 100% of tuition, accommodation, and meal plan costs. Applicants are encouraged to complete the Financial Aid section of their application to be considered for additional support, where applicable.
