About the Opportunity
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) Visual Arts and New Media Individual Project Funding program provides grants of up to $18,000 to support Alberta artists, arts administrators, and artist ensembles undertaking a specific visual arts or new media project. Funding can support a range of activities, including artistic creation, exhibitions, marketing, research, creative residencies, and training or career development.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must meet the Alberta Foundation for the Arts' residency requirements and be in good standing with the AFA.
Applicants must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person with an open work or study permit from within Canada.
- Have had their primary residence in Alberta for at least one full year before applying.
- Ordinarily live in Alberta for at least six months of each year (except while attending a formal program of study).
Eligible genres include:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Sculpture
- Printmaking
- Fibre Art
- Ceramics
- Photography
- Fine Craft
- Mixed Media
- Installation Art
- Public Art
- Media and/or Computer-Assisted Art
Funding
Applicants may request up to $18,000 to support eligible project expenses directly related to their proposed project. Funding may be used for artist and technician fees, materials and supplies, production costs, promotion and publicity, travel, accommodations, tuition or training fees, and other eligible project-related expenses. Grants may cover up to 100% of eligible expenses.
Application Deadline
- September 1, 2026
- March 1, 2027
Applications must be submitted through the AFA's Grant Administration Tracking and Evaluation (GATE) online system no later than 11:59 pm. (Mountain Time) on the application deadline date.
