The Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity's Soundweavings 2027 is a three-week intercultural music residency that brings together musicians and ensembles from around the world to explore creative collaboration across diverse musical traditions. The residency encourages artistic exploration by connecting traditional global music practices with Western classical music in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Participants will have dedicated time to develop their own creative projects while working alongside renowned faculty and fellow musicians through workshops, performances, and collaborative music-making. A pre-determined project is not required to apply.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be an individual musician or ensemble.
- Demonstrate experience in musical performance, creation, or exploration using traditional global music instruments and/or Western classical instruments.
The residency is open to both Canada and international applicants and is well suited to post-secondary students, as well as early- and mid-career musicians.
Residency HighlightsÂ
Participants will:
- Develop their own creative projects in a dedicated studio environment.
- Collaborate with internationally acclaimed faculty and fellow musicians.
- Participate in workshops focused on the creative process, concert curation, and career development.
- Perform in public concerts alongside faculty and participants.
- Receive archival recordings of public performances and access to limited demo recording sessions with Banff Centre's professional audio engineers.
- Enjoy 24-hour access to rehearsal studios throughout the residency.
Scholarships & Financial AssistanceÂ
All accepted participants receive a Banff Centre scholarship that significantly reduces the cost of tuition, accommodation, and meal plans. Additional financial assistance may be available for eligible applicants who complete the Financial Aid section of their application.
