Nominations for the 2022 Sobey Art Award are now open!
All nominations will be reviewed by an independent jury comprised of one distinguished representative from each of Canada’s five regions: the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies and the North, and the West Coast and Yukon, and also includes one international juror. The jury will oversee the selection process and establish the long and short lists as well as the winner of the award. 2022 Nominations open until March 25, 2022.
The Sobey Art Award, recognized as one of the world’s most generous privately funded prizes for contemporary visual artists, is open to emerging Canadian artists of all ages.
This year, a total of $400,000 in prize money will be awarded: $100,000 to the overall winner, $25,000 to each of the shortlisted artists, and $10,000 to the remaining long-listed artists. In addition, the five shortlisted artists will be featured in an exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada, with the winner announced at a gala ceremony this fall.

All application materials must be received at the National Gallery of Canada at/or before 6 pm EST on Friday, March 25, 2022.
The National Gallery of Canada accepts nominations for the 2022 Sobey Art Award from recognized agents, artists and institutions. The National Gallery of Canada will notify the sender by email upon receipt of nomination package.
