The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity's Literary Journalism 2027 is a 19-day in-person residency designed for experienced nonfiction writers, journalists, critics, curators, artists, academics, and established writers looking to develop a long-form nonfiction project.
Participants will have dedicated time and private studio space to focus on their writing while receiving one-on-one mentorship and access to optional faculty talks, Q&A sessions, public readings, and other literary programming. The final week of the residency is primarily dedicated to focuses independent writing.
Who Can Apply
This opportunity is open to applicants who:
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Have experience in nonfiction writing or journalism
- Are developing a nonfiction project in English
- Are comfortable working independently in a self-directed environment.
Canadian and international applicants are welcome.

Scholarships & Financial AssistanceÂ
Banff Centre Arts Scholarship help reduce the cost of participation. Eligible Canadian Indigenous applicants may receive scholarship support covering 100% of tuition, accommodation, and meal plan costs.
Additional financial assistance may also be available through the application process.
