igNIGHT is a temporary public art exhibition that aims to inspire public art initiatives in ways that engage the interest and imagination of the general public using illuminated artworks at the heart of the exhibition.
Request for Proposals: igNIGHT
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) invites artists to submit proposals to stage temporary, light-based public art in downtown Fort McMurray. The RMWB seeks to capitalize on opportunities to reimagine, transform and energize public spaces by showcasing igNIGHT-Art Illuminated. This temporary public art event will take place from Oct. 1 – 10, 2021. Artists are asked to explore potential opportunities for using light to enhance, animate, interact with or re-contextualize natural and/or built environments. Existing artworks that have not been showcased in Fort McMurray will also be considered.
Please read full details in the Request for Proposals document. Artists must review it prior to submitting their application.

Design theme
igNIGHT 2021 aims to align with the resolution of the declaration made by the UN General Assembly that 2021 is the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (#IYFV2021)! This declaration aims to build awareness on the important role fruits and vegetables have in nutrition, food security and human and planetary health. It also aims to reduce food loss and waste and promote sustainability and safety of the food chain process. Fruit and vegetables not only offer nutritional benefits, they also play an important part in cultural celebrations, customs and culinary delights. Bright, colourful, bold and raw, these natural food sources fuel the body, nourish the mind and bring people together in so many ways. What statement do you want to make about the International Year of Fruit and Vegetables?
To learn more about the declaration, visit the International Fruits and Vegetable website.
