About the Opportunity
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) Dance Individual Project Funding program provides up to $18,000 to support Alberta-based dance artists, arts administrators, and artist ensembles undertaking a specific dance project. Funding is available for projects that encourage artistic growth, professional development, and the creation or promotion of dance works.
Eligible projects may include:
- Art production and creation
- Research and project development
- Marketing and audience development
- Professional training and career development, including workshops, mentorships, retreats, master classes, and dance-related courses of study
Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
- Be Alberta residents.
- Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Persons with an eligible work or study permit.
- Meet the Alberta Foundation for the Arts' individual eligibility requirements.
- Be in good standing with the Alberta Foundation for the Arts with no outstanding grant reporting requirements.
Collaborating artists, ensembles, and collectives may also apply, provided all project co-owners meet the program's eligibility requirements.
Funding
Applicants may request up to $18,000, covering up to 100% of eligible project expenses.
Eligible expenses may include:
- Artist and technician fees
- Production costs
- Marketing and publicity
- Travel and accommodation
- Tuition and training fees
- Royalties
- Administrative expenses
- Basic living expenses (up to $3,000 per month)
- Other reasonable project-related costs
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts' Grant Administration Tracking and Evaluation (GATE) system.
Applicants are required to submit supporting materials, including an artistic résumé, a detailed project description, examples of previous work, and any additional documentation applicable to their project.
Projects must not begin before the application has been submitted.
