The Co-Designing a Smartwear Revolution project at the University of Alberta is inviting artists, designers, performers, and artist-researchers to submit Expressions of Interest artwork and artist-in-residence opportunities connected to the Support 2028 Arts Festival in Edmonton.
About the Opportunity
Artists are invited to propose new or existing work that responds to the festival theme of Support. Proposed projects may explore topic such as disability, smart textiles, technology, access, embodiment, and the different ways support can be experienced or understood.
The festival is connected to the University of Alberta's Co-Designing a Smartwear Revolution project, which is developing responsive "smart" garments designed to provide support to the body. Artists are being invited to engage with, question, and creatively respond to this research through their own artistic practices.
In addition to the festival artwork call, two artist-in-residence opportunities are available: one in-person residency and one fully remote residency.
