About the Opportunity
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) Art Acquisitions by Application program provides professional Alberta artists with the opportunity to have their artwork purchased for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Art Collection. The collection celebrates contemporary Alberta artists and shares their work through exhibitions, public art displays, and loan programs across the province.
This program supports the acquisition of original artwork in a variety of media, helping to preserve and promote Alberta's diverse artistic talent while increasing public access to the province's visual arts.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
- Be a professional artist.
- Be an Alberta resident for at least one full year prior to applying.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person with an eligible work or study permit.
- Meet the Alberta Foundation for the Arts' eligibility requirements and be in good standing with the organization.
Eligible Artwork
Artwork submitted for consideration must:
- Be original work created by the applicant.
- Have been completed within the last five years.
- Be in excellent physical condition and ready for exhibition.
- Meet the program's eligibility requirements outlined in the guidelines.
Applicants may submit up to five artworks per application.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts' Grant Administration Tracking and Evaluation (GATE) system.
Applicants are required to submit supporting materials, including:
- A professional résumé or curriculum vitae (CV)
- A 300–500 word artist biography
- An artistic statement
- Images of the submitted artwork
- Any additional documentation outlined in the program guidelines
