Call for Indigenous Artists: Conklin Multiplex Mural Project

The Regional Recreation Corporation, in partnership with Arts Council Wood Buffalo, is inviting a local Indigenous artist or group of up to 3 artists from the Wood Buffalo region to collaborate on a community mural inside the Conklin Multiplex. A portion of the mural, designed by Raye-Lynn Richards, will be painted by Conklin youth, with dedicated sections open to the selected artists to bring their own artistic voice to the multipurpose room.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA  

  • Artist must reside in Wood Buffalo region with preference given to rural residents living in Conklin, Janvier, Chard, and Anzac areas.
  • Artist must identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit, or Non-Status).
  • Artist must provide examples of past and/or relevant work for the selection process.
  • Must be physically able to stand on a ladder for lengths of time, work at heights, and work independently.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

  • A selected artist or group of up to 3 artists will design and paint portions of a collaborative mural inside the multipurpose room of the Conklin Multiplex in partnership with programs coordinators from RRC and ACWB.
  • Arts Council Wood Buffalo will provide a selected Indigenous artist or group with a $2000 honorarium for their contribution towards the Conklin Multiplex community mural. Additionally, ACWB will cover the artist's cost of travel to and from Conklin, artist materials, and provisions during sessions (food/snacks).
  • The selected artist(s) will be expected to begin painting of the mural in April and to be completed by June, 2026.
  • The Conklin Mural project seeks to engage in rural community arts, creating accessibility and inclusion to local Wood Buffalo artists and residents.
