Buffys 2025: Call for Videographer Services

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards (Buffys) is an annual program that recognizes and celebrates excellence in various areas of the arts throughout our region. The program also builds awareness of the incredible contribution artists make to Wood Buffalo. This year’s showcase will be delivered at Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre. Arts Council aims to hire performing artists to create performances that will be showcased live, in-person at this year’s Awards Showcase on October 18, 2025. The performances will be recorded for archival purposes and may be distributed as needed.

While not mandatory, Arts Council artists are encouraged to infuse their work with the thematic coherence of 10 Years of Midnight. Embracing the essence of this theme, artists can draw inspiration from the elegance, mystery, and timeless sophistication of Truman Capote’s iconic black-and-white ball.

ABOUT THE COMMISSION

ACWB is seeking proposals from videographers to create the following deliverables:

1. 12 Artist Shortlist Videos

  • Capture footage of 36 shortlisted artists for the creation of 12 videos. Each video will feature interviews with three shortlisted artists in their creative spaces, accompanied by B-roll footage of their completed works or works-in-progress. Videos are to be no longer than 1 minute each.
  • Tops and tails of each video will reflect the Buffys’ 2025 theme: 10 Years of Midnight. Digital assets for branding will be provided by ACWB.
  • Key Dates:
    • Shortlist shared with videographer: August 1, 2025. At which time, the videographer can begin to schedule sessions with shortlisted artists.
    • Submission deadline: September 29, 2025.

2. Award Creation Video

  • A 3-minute spotlight on the artist selected to craft the 2025 Buffys awards. This video will document the creation process, capturing interviews and B-roll footage. This video can be 3-5 minutes in length.
  • Key Dates:
    • Recording begins as early as: June 16, 2025.
    • Submission deadline: September 29, 2025.

3. Three Award Recipient Videos

  • Produce reveal-style videos for the award recipients in the following categories: Lifetime Achievement, Arts Champion, and Youth Leader in the Arts. These videos will feature close-up footage of the recipients in action, gradually revealing their identity, paired with voiceovers by ACWB staff. Each video should be 1-2 minutes in length.

4. Sponsor Video

  • Create a dynamic thank-you video for sponsors. The videographer will liaise directly with sponsors to schedule and film them at an agreed-upon location. Arts Council Wood Buffalo will provide contact information.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful videographer will:

  • Schedule and liaise with all artists. Arts Council Wood Buffalo will provide contact information.
  • Have experience in storytelling through video and working with artists or creative subjects.
  • Provide all necessary equipment for filming and editing.
  • Collaborate with ACWB staff to align with the event’s vision and branding.
  • Deliver high-quality, royalty-free videos by the specified deadlines.

FEE

Compensation will be negotiated based on the scope of work and experience. Please provide a detailed budget with your proposal.

SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL

Videographers are welcome to submit proposals for one or more of the deliverables listed above. ACWB is open to hiring multiple videographers to cover different aspects of the project. Proposals must be submitted through the ACWB Opportunities Portal. Create an account, log in, and click the purple “Start Entry” button. Select “Buffys – Videographer” as your category to begin drafting your submission.

Proposals must include:

  1. A portfolio of previous video work.
  2. A detailed proposal outlining your approach, timeline, and budget.
  3. Contact information.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Proposals must be received by 12:00 PM on May 12, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.

SELECTION PROCESS

Selections will be made by Arts Council Wood Buffalo staff. All decisions are final, and only successful applicants will be notified by May 19, 2025.
