Joanna is the Band and Choir Director at Westwood High School, where she has been inspiring musicstudents since 2016. A dedicated music educator, she plays piano, and guitar and the smallest bit of violin. As a teacher, she conducts woodwind, brass, percussion, and even strings as well as directing vocalists in the school choir. She is always encouraging students to develop both their technical skills and confidence as performers.

Before moving to the community in 2006, Joanna worked extensively as a collaborative pianist with a variety of artists and groups. She is also the founder of the Aurora Youth Choir, providing young singers with valuable opportunities to grow and perform in a supportive environment.

Beyond the classroom, Joanna is a versatile artist with a background in graphic design from NAIT and experience running her own design and marketing business. She is also an accomplished artisan, working in sewing, cosmetic formulation, and laser cutting and engraving.

Joanna’s creativity extends to the performing arts industry as a makeup artist for stage and film, contributing to Edmonton Fringe productions and the Alberta-filmed project Cat’s Cradle. She is passionate about nurturing creativity and helping students and friends explore a wide range of artistic disciplines.
