About the Exhibit
The YMM Digital Art Exhibit is part of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority’s award-winning Art Strategy, which celebrates creativity and brings arts and culture into the airport experience.
Displayed on digital screens throughout the terminal and on the YMM website, the exhibit provides artists with a highly visible platform to share their work with travellers and the community. The 2027 program will feature three seasonal rotations and one launch event bringing all selected artists together.

2027 Theme & Description: "Made of This Place"
What makes a place what it is?
We invite artists to explore the people, landscapes, experiences and connections that shape the places we call home.
Draw inspiration from nature, community, culture, industry, memory, tradition or everyday life. Interpret the theme in your own way, whether literal, abstract or unexpected.
Submissions may include photography, poetry, illustration, digital art, or photographs of original works such as sculpture and mixed media.
Artist Selection and Exhibition Details
- Three artists will be selected for the 2027 exhibit year.
- Each artist will be featured in one of three rotations on YMM digital screens and on the airport website.
- All selected artists will be highlighted at a single launch event that brings together the full exhibit year.
- Artists will be profiled on YMM communication channels including social media and newsletters.
- Each selected artist will receive a $500 honorarium.
Submission Criteria
Please include the following items in your submission:
- Artist statement up to 250 words describing your artistic practice and connection to the theme.
- Five to ten examples of your work that represent your artistic practice. Visual works should be submitted as high resolution JPEG or PNG files. Written works may be submitted as a PDF.
- A list of titles, dimensions, and medium for each work, where applicable.
- Short biography up to two hundred and fifty words.
- Contact information including name, phone, email, and links if available.
Eligibility
- Open to artists in Wood Buffalo and across Alberta.
- Artists working in a variety of mediums are welcome to apply, provided the work can be effectively adapted for digital display.
Selection Process
- Connection to the 2027 theme.
- Artistic quality, creativity and originality.
- Strength of the overall submission.
- Suitability for digital display in a public environment.
Key Dates
- Call opens Oct. 5, 2026.
- Submission deadline: November 20, 2026 at 4 p.m. MT.
- Selected artists notified: by November 30, 2026.
- Launch event date: January 2027 (exact date to be announced).

- For large files, share a link through a service such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer. Use the file naming format LastName_FirstName_Title.jpg for images.
