The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity's Comics and Graphic Novels 2027 is a 12-day self directed residency for writers and illustrators working in comics, graphic novels, and visual storytelling.
The program gives participants dedicated time and private studio space to focus on developing new work, revising an existing project, or advancing their creative practice. Residents will also have access to mentorship, optional talks and discussions, and opportunities to connect with other writers and artists.
Who Can Apply
This residency is open to emerging and established writers and illustrators who:
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Have a demonstrated publication record
- Are working on a comics or graphic novel project
- Can work independently in a self-directed environment
- Are creating work in English
- Can work in either digital or traditional media suitable for an office style studio
Canadian and international applicants are welcome.

Scholarships & Financial Assistance
Banff Centre Arts Scholarships help reduce the cost of participation. Eligible Canadian Indigenous applicants may receive scholarship support covering 100% of tuition, accommodation, and meal plan costs.
Additional financial assistance may also be available through the application process.
