Strathcona County is inviting Canadian artists and artist teams to submit portfolios for five public art opportunities at the new Sherwood Park Fieldhouse Multisport Facility.
Artists will have the opportunity to create memorable public artworks that contributes to a vibrant, welcoming, and inclusive environment. Potential themes include movement, play, wellness, sport, landscape, community connection, and shared public life.
This is a portfolio-based call, meaning artists are not required to develop or submit a finished artwork concept during the initial application stage.
Public Art Opportunities
Five commissions are available:
- Exterior Plaza Sculpture: $145,000
- Exterior Mural (Vinyl Installation): $40,000
- Interior Stairway Wall Artwork: $10,000
- Main Vestibule Artwork: $25,000
- Elevator Wall Artwork: $15,000
Artists may express interest in one or multiple opportunities.
Who Can Apply
The call is open to Canadian artists and artist teams at all stages of their careers.Â
Artists applying for the exterior plaza sculpture and mural opportunities should demonstrate experience with projects of a similar scale and complexity.
Artists who are new to public art are especially encouraged to apply for the interior opportunities. This may include illustrators, designers, muralists, digital artists, studio artist, and community-based practitioners.
Submission RequirementsÂ
Applicants must provide:
- A letter of interest (maximum two pages)
- Up to 10 images of previous work
- A current CV or résumé (maximum three pages)
- An artist biography (maximum 150 words)
- Optional supporting materials such as website links, videos, publications, or project documentation
Shortlisted artists will be invited to an interview and presentation and will receive a $186 honorarium.
