Stepping into the Jubilee Building is more than entering a civic space; it’s an invitation to be a part of a story that begins long before the building itself. Since time immemorial, this land has been home to Indigenous peoples whose traditions, knowledge, and artistry have shaped the very fabric of life in northern Alberta. With Grounded in Spirit, that legacy is honoured in a profound way: the first floor of the Jubilee Building will now serve as a permanent home for works by Indigenous artists connected to this region.
Join the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to celebrate the unveiling of four remarkable artworks by Bernadette Cree Dumais, Shawn McClure, Jane Ash Poitras, and Tiffany Shaw - pieces that speak to heritage, resilience, and the enduring spirit of Indigenous culture. Artworks pay tribute to traditional craft, ancestral knowledge and the lived experiences that continue to shape Indigenous identity and culture.
In keeping with oral storytelling traditions, each piece is accompanied by an audio narrative recorded by the artist, creating an immersive and inclusive experience for all visitors.
