ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards (Buffys) is an annual program that recognizes and celebrates excellence in various areas of the arts throughout our region. The program also builds awareness of the incredible contribution artists make to Wood Buffalo. This year’s showcase will be delivered at Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre. Arts Council aims to hire performing artists to create performances that will be showcased live, in-person at this year’s Awards Showcase on October 18, 2025.
Join the Cast of the 2025 Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards Ten Years of Midnight at the Black & White Ball
Arts Council Wood Buffalo is seeking dynamic, theatrical performers (18+) to bring our vision to life at this year’s Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards—a glamorous celebration of ten unforgettable years, inspired by Truman Capote’s iconic Black and White Ball.
We’re looking for performers to portray Capote’s legendary “swans”: high-society figures known for their elegance, charm, and dramatic flair. These characters are written as women, and we welcome adult performers of all gender identities who are comfortable portraying feminine roles. Dance ability is an asset, though not required.
Successful artists will:
- Perform as one of Truman Capote’s extravagant “swans,” bringing drama and flair to the awards show
- Participate in presenting awards and adding character to the evening’s spectacle
- Be required to attend up to three rehearsals leading up to the event on October 18, 2025
- Receive payment for their time, a free ticket to the gala, and a discounted plus-one ticket
Auditions will take place on Friday, July 18th between 5:00 PM and 8:30 PM at YMM Dance Company (located at MacDonald Island Park, second floor across from the gym).
