ABOUT THE PROGRAMĀ
The Seniors & the Arts program is offered in partnership with St. Aidanās Society, providing arts-related programming to seniors and Elders in Wood Buffalo. Through this, Arts in Action offers opportunities for seniors to engage in free, hands-on arts workshops. Arts Council is seeking to hire one Teaching Artist to facilitate two workshop sessions as a part of Seniors & the Arts Day, a full-day event that offers arts-based workshops for seniors and Elders.Ā
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Ā
- Artist must reside in the Wood Buffalo RegionĀ
- Artist must be able to turn their artform into a teachable workshop designed for seniors and Elders
- Artist must be experienced in their artform and be able to provide samples of previous experienceĀ
- Must have a reasonable and affordable budget for their proposed workshop
ABOUT THE COMMISSION
- ACWB is particularly interested in workshops that will engage seniors or Elders in their workshop, creating a experience that will positively impact the lives of seniors and Elders
- The instructor will be responsible for planning one 2.5 hour workshop, to be facilitated two times
- The proposed workshop should support between 20-25 participants
- Seniors & the Arts Day will take place on May 1, 2025 from 9:00am-3:30pm at Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre
WORK MEDIA
The work media must be teachable and engaging to Seniors or Elders. Artforms may include, but are not limited to:Ā Ā
- Painting
- Beading
- Watercolour
- Drawing
- Woodworking
- MacrameĀ

SUBMISSION DEADLINE
Submissions must be submitted by March 24, 2025 at 12:00PM (noon). Late submissions will not be considered for hire.Ā
FEES
Arts Council will compensate the Teaching Artist a fee of $750 (including GST) for the development and delivery of two 2.5 hour workshop sessions.Ā
SELECTION PROCESSĀ
The artists will be selected on the appropriateness of the program to teach to seniors or Elders, the uniqueness of the program, and the cost and quality of the workshop. Priority will be given to artists who have a strong workshop plan, showing detailed concepts and a focus on working with the seniors and Elders.Ā
Please note that only artists who are successful will be notified.
Selections will be made by Arts Council Wood Buffalo staff. All selections made will be final. The successful artist will be notified by March 31, 2025.
