ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Growing up in Botwood Newfoundland, Effie described some of her warmest memories of her childhood being of her mother sewing and knitting pajamas and mittens for her to wear.  Now, living in Alberta, Effie knits for her grandchildren and reflects on the time spent with family in Newfoundland.

The image depicted in my painting is of Killick Island just off the coast of Botwood. I chose to paint on a knitted shawl to signify the knitting of Effie’s mother as well as the warmth felt by Effie, when reflecting on those memories.
