ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The hungry obsession for poetry is within each and everyone of us as human beings. To connect with another person and share your story is not only fascinating and intriguing, but it also brings more meaning to a piece such as Art of Conversation.

Working with Michelin was a great experience. As she spoke about how her family migrated to Fort McMurray from Ontario, I couldn’t help but have a smile on my face. Only meeting with Michelin for a short period of time, it was impressive to hear her positivity and optimism about life. It is a trait that we need more of in this world.

Each day if we are lucky enough to wake up from our beds, we grow a day older. Days turn into months, and months into years. The important message that must be heard is no matter where are lives take us or how long we live, we should never shy away from a good conversation. – Ryan McCann

POEM
I met with a beautiful lady today, her name was Michelin Crowe
I found out through our conversation, she’s from Timmins, Ontario
I asked her many things, like what brought you to Fort McMurray?
She answered, “my husband found work as a Millwright,” so the family did not have to worry

He landed a job at Syncrude, while she supported their three kids at home
Seemed like only yesterday she was a child playing hide and seek with her friends and with that would freely roam
Into the woods to find a place, so they would not be found
Times were so simpler then, eventually she’d be Alberta bound

I asked her about advice in life, and this is what she had to say
“Be in a good mood when you can, take care of your family and try and enjoy life each day.”

She seemed so wise, so intelligent, in the past she was a ski instructor
I bet she was really good at it too, down the steep hill like a train conductor
Steering the skis, her hair blowing cool, through the cold winter days
I am sure she taught others well, not only on the skis but in the maze

The maze of life has its ups and downs, but Michelin seems so positive about life
She said in the end it’s what you make of it, I am sure she made a really good wife

I have to agree with her on this one, while I work with my gardening kit
A passion of hers is planting flowers as well, digging deep in the soil with her hand full of grit

Thank you so much for chatting with me, I hope for you to tower
Over negative thinking or thoughts that can sometimes seem quite sour
It’s true what you say about life, we just have to stay optimistic about it
Keep trucking through with a smile and not think twice about wanting to quit.
