ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I created this acrylic painting on a 12 x 16 wood panel. “Scheveningen Beach” came to life through a series of conversations I had with a local resident, Astrid Dézèntjé. The painting was a collaborative effort, in which I used many conversations with Astrid to draw inspiration for the painting. Astrid and I share a love for vibrant colours and expressive brushstrokes. I wanted to create a landscape that would act as a snapshot into Astrid’s past. Astrid grew up in the Hague and shared many happy memories of spending time by the North Sea. “Scheveningen Beach” is a tribute to Astrid. Like the North Sea, Astrid’s spirit is formidable, resolved, and beautiful. I hope “Scheveningen Beach” brings her joy whenever she sees it.
