ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The symbols in the portrait represent many important elements in Lorraine’s life, for example, her dogs who are very precious to her, as well as the Métis sash and symbol of infinity. Lorraine said the eagle would be her spirit animal, and so I chose to paint it as her necklace. Alberta’s national flower, the wild rose, represents native beadwork, and I also painted the tiny cardinal looking up to her which as part of her proud heritage. The radiating leaves represent the many generations of her family.
