2018 Buffy Awards

The 2018 Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards were created by Sonia Burke-Smith and Claire Antoine. The awards were hand-made buffalo skin drums with the image of a buffalo painted on the drum. The concept is based on the Buffalo and Drum teachings in Indigenous culture. The buffalo represents Respect in the Seven Sacred teachings and the drum represents the first sound we ever hear – our mother’s heartbeat.
