Nick Vardy

Nick is Bearfoot Onondaga First Nations from the Six Nations of Grand River. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Nick attended Mohawk College for Child and Youth Work. In 2014, he moved across Canada to work as a Youth Programmer for a local First Nation and has called Wood Buffalo home ever since.

Nick is an active advocate of Indigenous art and culture and is a multidisciplinary artist. He is part of the traditional drummer group, War Cry, and has had the honour of passing down traditional knowledge of the drum across Wood Buffalo. Nick and his wife, Jennifer, have two children. His daughter, Brooklyn, is a fancy dancer, and his son, Jackson, is often seen sitting on Nick’s lap during performances. Nick feels immense pride that he is able to pass down his culture to the next generation.

Nick was nominated as Citizen of the Year for the 2020 Heart of Wood Buffalo Awards for his dedication towards bringing Indigenous Art and Culture into the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Nick is a professional photographer and is excited to bring his ideas and love of art and culture to Arts Council Wood Buffalo. www.nicholasvardyphotography.com
