Call for Submissions for 2SLGBTQ+ Monologues Anthology
Playwrights Canada Press invites you to submit monologues for publication in its latest anthology, a collection of monologues for 2SLGBTQ+ and non-binary voices. This book aims to gather monologues that reflect a breadth of themes, styles, cultures, and creative practices across generations and borders.
The goal of this book is to create a canon of monologues that reflect what it means to be queer or on the spectrum of the 2SLGBTQ+ community through a modern lens, while chronicling and championing as many diverse voices as possible. We are curious about the future of queer theatre. The intersections of queerness and cultures. Post AIDS stories. Have we moved past “coming out” stories, or are those inherent inside every queer person’s story? What are new, unexpected things we find ourselves coming out about? What isn’t being talked about enough in our communities? What happens to our stories when we give ourselves the permission to write about whatever we want? We want to give voice to what it means to be a member of this community in this ever-evolving new world, allowing actors of every age, colour, culture, and generation something to play with, ponder, learn, and recite. This includes featuring work from writers who identify as any of the following: 2/Two-Spirit, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, queer, genderqueer, questioning, intersex, asexual, pangender, agender, bigender, gender variant. We hope to contribute and respond to what is happening around the world today. We want to be inspired, moved, confronted, provoked, educated, shocked, and called into action.
Playwrights are asked to submit a monologue of approximately 1-2 pages. Submissions may come from produced plays, workshopped plays, or a stand-alone monologue that has already been written or is responding to this particular submission call. If your piece has already been published, you must include information on how to contact the publisher. Please note that due to the volume of submissions, only those writers selected will receive a response. Please DO NOT send us the entire play if the piece is coming from that source.
