RMWB: Arts, Culture, and Heritage Grant

Are you looking for funding to support your arts, culture and heritage-related projects? The Arts, Culture & Heritage Grant could be the answer!

This grant provides up to $5,000 to individuals or groups who are working to create, inspire and preserve within the cultural landscape of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

To apply for the Arts, Culture and Heritage Grant, you must demonstrate how your project aligns with one or more of the following priorities of the Wood Buffalo Culture Plan:

  • Foster a healthy environment for culture: arts and heritage.
  • Further develop cultural facilities and resources.
  • Support collaboration and innovation.
  • Encourage diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility.
  • Improve awareness of the value of culture.

2024 Alberta Culture Days Grant

Alberta Culture Days 2024 will take place September 1 – 30. This month-long celebration of Alberta’s rich heritage, arts, community spirit and cultural diversity serves as a platform for talented individuals from across the province to showcase their skills. It illuminates Alberta’s vibrant history and communal ethos, celebrating its cultural tapestry.

 

Community organizations can apply for Alberta Culture Days funding through the Government of Alberta to support Alberta Culture Days activities, events and promotions that engage public participation and inspire future involvement. Grants up to $10,000 are available to support events in September 2024.

 

The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 15 at 11:59 pm.

Visual Arts and New Media Individual Project Funding: Alberta Foundation for the Arts

This funding provides up to $15,000 to support development of individual Alberta artists, arts administrators, or an ensemble of artists by providing funding for a specific visual arts or new media project.

 

Who can apply?

 

Individual eligibility criteria

 

The AFA celebrates and supports diversity and is committed to creating equitable, inclusive, and accessible programs for all, free of barriers and discrimination. We recognize the unique contributions all artists make towards our community, and encourage applicants representing diverse communities, including Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, women, people with disabilities, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. To be eligible for individual project funding, you must be a resident of Alberta. This means you:

  • are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person with an open work or study permit from inside Canada
  • have had your primary residence in Alberta for at least one full year before applying
  • ordinarily live in Alberta for a least six months of each year with the exception of attending a formal program of study

You must be in good standing with the AFA with no open or outstanding projects or reporting to apply. Previous grant recipients must ensure all final reporting has been approved by the AFA before new applications are accepted. Applicants, including ensembles or collectives, must not be incorporated under either provincial or federal legislation.

 

Ensembles, collectives, and collaborations

 

Ensembles, collectives, and collaborations are eligible to apply to this program and must list all principal artists involved in the project activities as part of their application. All members of an ensemble, collective, or collaboration must meet the individual eligibility criteria. Principal artists cannot apply and/or receive funding for multiple projects at the same time, whether as an individual or a member of various ensembles, collectives, or collaborations.

  For the purposes of this funding opportunity, eligible projects include the below list of genres. Literary arts translation and anthology projects in any of the below genres are also eligible:

  • graphic novels
  • plays
  • young adult fiction
  • picture books
  • literary non-fiction*

*The AFA defines literary non-fiction as a genre that uses inventive or literary techniques to produce work that is factually true and artistically elegant, and is written in a personal, identifiable voice. It can include:

  • biography
  • cultural, political or social commentary
  • history
  • literary journalism
  • memoir
  • personal essays
  • travel writing

For the purposes of this funding opportunity, eligible film and video arts projects are independent works in film and video produced by individual artists.

For the purposes of this funding opportunity, eligible film genres include, but are not limited to:

  • narrative shorts and features
  • experimental shorts
  • documentary
  • animation

For a project to be eligible for AFA funding, the applicant must have complete editorial and creative control over the proposed project and must retain at least 75% of copyright.

Canada-Korea Co-creation Fund

Are you an artist or arts organization from Canada looking to collaborate with a Korean partner on a creative project? Apply before January 18, 2024, for a grant of up to $25,000.

 

What’s it about?

 

The Canada-Korea Co-creation Fund looks to boost creative connections between Canada and Korea by supporting projects focused on artistic co-creation between the two countries. It’s inspired by 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries and is made possible through a partnership between the Canada Council for the Arts, Arts Council Korea and Global Affairs Canada.  

 

Am I eligible?

 

  You may be eligible for the Canada-Korea Co-creation Fund if you:

  • have existing ties to Korean arts and culture;
  • have a Korean artistic collaborator in mind for a new co-creation project;
  • are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada;
  • have 7 years of professional experience in your creative field;
  • have a project in mind that looks to move the marker forward on environmental sustainability, equity, diversity or inclusion;
  • and have demonstrated capacity for international work and collaboration.
