Call for Mural Artist

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Submissions Deadline: Friday, April 30th, 2021

Rivers Casino and Entertainment Centre (formerly Boomtown Casino) is seeking expressions of interest from mural artists and/or creative teams with connections to the Wood Buffalo region to collaborate, design and install a mural on the outer façade of the newly renovated casino building.


Applications will be reviewed by Rivers Casino and Entertainment Centre management team from which an artist will be selected. The artist will work directly with management to develop a suitable design proposal that aims to enliven the streetscape and attract visitors to the newly renovated casino.


Rivers Casino and Entertainment Centre intends to apply for funding support for this project through the Municipalities Downtown Revitalization Incentive Program (rmwb.ca).

SITE DETAILS

Rivers Casino and Entertainment Centre is in the core of downtown Fort McMurray, AB., and is situated at the corner of Hardin Street and Franklin Avenue within proximity to the Peter Pond Mall and the Jubilee Government Building.

The proposed canvas is approximately 7 feet tall and 25 feet wide which faces directly onto Hardin Street and towards Jubilee Plaza, a prominent location for many community events. The selected artist and Rivers Casino and Entertainment Centre management will work together to define the exact placement, surface area and size of the project.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Please provide written material and images in PDF or WORD format the following order.

  1. Current CV
  2. Support images (up to five images)
  3. Image list (detailing: Image number, title of artwork, location, size, medium, date completed,
    name of any collaborators who worked with you on the project)
  4. Description of relevant experience
  5. Estimated Project Budget
  6. Explanation of intent to collaborate (if applicable)

Eligibility: Applicants must have connections to the Wood Buffalo region and is 18 years of age or older at the time of applying to this call.

igNIGHT: Art Illuminated

igNIGHT is a temporary public art exhibition that aims to inspire public art initiatives in ways that engage the interest and imagination of the general public using illuminated artworks at the heart of the exhibition.

Request for Proposals: igNIGHT

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) invites artists to submit proposals to stage temporary, light-based public art in downtown Fort McMurray. The RMWB seeks to capitalize on opportunities to reimagine, transform and energize public spaces by showcasing igNIGHT-Art Illuminated. This temporary public art event will take place from Oct. 1 – 10, 2021. Artists are asked to explore potential opportunities for using light to enhance, animate, interact with or re-contextualize natural and/or built environments. Existing artworks that have not been showcased in Fort McMurray will also be considered.

Design theme

igNIGHT 2021 aims to align with the resolution of the declaration made by the UN General Assembly that 2021 is the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (#IYFV2021)! This declaration aims to build awareness on the important role fruits and vegetables have in nutrition, food security and human and planetary health. It also aims to reduce food loss and waste and promote sustainability and safety of the food chain process. Fruit and vegetables not only offer nutritional benefits, they also play an important part in cultural celebrations, customs and culinary delights. Bright, colourful, bold and raw, these natural food sources fuel the body, nourish the mind and bring people together in so many ways. What statement do you want to make about the International Year of Fruit and Vegetables?

2021 Art + Technology Lab Call for Artist Proposals

LACMA’s Art + Technology Lab program has published its 2021 RFP and is accepting proposals for artist projects that engage new forms of technology. Awards take the form of grants of up to $50,000 and as well as in-kind support from the museum and private partners in technology and science. Applications are due Thursday, February 25, 2021 by 11:59 pm PST and must be submitted via the online portal. Learn more about the 2021 RFP.

Awards will be announced in April 2021 and grants are given for a period of one year. During that time, recipients are encouraged to pursue new directions in their work that explore ideas in technology and culture.

Business of the Arts Photography – Request for Quotes

Information

Arts Council Wood Buffalo (ACWB) is looking for professional photography services to provide specialty photos for ACWB members. This is a service provided through the Business of the Arts program, which builds the entrepreneurial capacity of local artists by providing them with the resources they need to compete and thrive and to create a sustainable living from their artistic practice. These are artist headshots and photographs of 2D/3D visual artwork. The photography sessions will be scheduled during the second half of February or early March.

Services Required

  1. Artist headshot
    • 1 per artist
    • Colour and black and white versions
    • High resolution file for print
    • Low resolution file for web
  2. Artwork photographs
    • 2 photographs per artwork, maximum of 3 artworks (2D/3D)
    • Colour
    • High resolution files for print
    • Low resolution files for web
  3. Shoot time (maximum)
    • 8 hours for artist headshots
      • 15 minute time slots
      • 4 hours weekday evening = 14 slots + one 30 minute break
      • 4 hours weekend day = 14 slots + one 30 minute break
    • 8 hours for visual artwork
      • 30 minute time slots
      • 4 hours weekday evening = 7 slots + one 30 minute break
      • 4 hours weekend day = 7 slots + one 30 minute break
  4. Editing/admin time
    • Include approximate editing time required.
    • How long after the shoot can we expect the final images?
  5. Required to bring your own photography equipment including camera and lighting. The room will have simple black, white, and blue backdrops to choose from. Anything more specific you would need to provide.

Submission Requirements

  • Cost – inclusive of GST, shoot time, editing, and licensing the images to the artists and ACWB.
  • Specify what equipment you require ACWB to provide. (Ie. for 2D artworks an easel or a wall mount; 3D artworks a pedestal)
  • Resume of related experience or an Artist CV
  • Samples of your work – minimum of 5 images, preferably through a website or online portfolio, that show similar experience with the services requested.

Selection Process

The successful photographer will be selected by Arts Council Wood Buffalo staff and will be notified the week of February 4. Please note, only the successful artist will be contacted.
